Wabash, a trailblazer in transportation and logistics solutions, has announced plans to expand its Trailer-as-a-Service (TaaS) fleet by a staggering 400% by the end of 2025. This bold initiative will boost its TaaS fleet from approximately 1,000 trailers to as many as 4,000 trailers, positioning Wabash as a leader in scalable, flexible logistics for an evolving market.

The Vision Behind the Expansion

According to Brion St. Amour, Senior Commercial Director of Wabash Marketplace, the company is aggressively scaling its TaaS fleet to meet anticipated market demand over the next few years. Speaking on the sidelines of the American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition, St. Amour stated:
“We are growing our fleet as a result of where we see the market in two or three years’ time. As the market starts to turn, it’s an interesting time, where trailer-as-a-service can add capacity without a long-term commitment.”
The forecasted market improvement is expected to gain momentum throughout late 2025 and into 2026. Wabash is preparing to seize the opportunity by providing on-demand capacity solutions when the market turns.

What Is TaaS and Why It Matters

TaaS, or Trailer-as-a-Service, offers companies access to trailers without the burden of ownership. Through this model, third-party logistics providers (3PLs) and other asset-light businesses can obtain trailers on flexible terms that include:

St. Amour highlighted the growing demand for drop trailer capacity from 3PLs, noting:

Unlike leasing or outright purchasing, TaaS offers a dynamic approach to expanding capacity, making it an attractive option as the market recovers from the current freight slump.
